Second Life News for August 9 2007
Revisiting Ads on Second Life Advertisers follow the same rules as everyone else, and only pay for the land as well as any development they need (although that money goes to an agency, not Linden Labs.) Not surprisingly, a lot of the hype has died down since many advertiser efforts go virtually unnoticed by the inhabitants. The successes that were mentioned focused on creativity and enhancement of the SL world.
What Second Life business exodus? Earlier in the summer, Second Life took several hits in the mainstream business press, which just last year was ga-ga over the virtual world and the potential for business activities. Harcourts expands into Second Life In the computer generated virtual world of ‘Second Life’ you can buy land for just over $200 and hardly break a sweat. Harcourt’s is one of the first real-world estate agencies to start selling virtual property and the only one to do so from New Zealand.
American Cancer Society Raises Nearly 115,000 Dollars During Virtual Relay For Life In Second Life The American Cancer Society announced that its recently concluded Relay For Life event in the Second Life virtual world raised nearly 115,000 dollars (or $32 million Linden dollars, the official Second Life currency) to support cancer research and programs. This year’s tally eclipsed the goal of raising 75,000 dollars set earlier this year by volunteer organizers.
Exodus! Movement of Jah People This article is taking some pains to cast doubt on the current media belief that there’s a business exodus from SL. That’s nice, but I think it’s still a matter of flogging a dead horse. Take a step back and consider the matter from a different angle. Regardless of where you set up shop, some businesses succeed, some fail. It happens all the time. There is likely a given amount of time in which a company decides that, by THIS date, if they haven’t made x amount of money, they’ll abandon ship.
Was/Is Ginko Financials a Scam? Ginko Financials is apparently experiencing a run on their bank, meaning everyone wants their lindens out of there, and who can blame them with all of the shady stuff that appears to be going on in the unregulated world of Second Life finance. Lots and lots of coverage at Your 2nd Place. Including And Ginko Financial Closes It’s Doors (Updated:10:06 pm SLT - Now Official).
