Been reading some interesting articles today about escorts in Second Life, how it’s legal since it’s mostly like phone sex, how much money they make, what types there are, etc. The first stop here is the Second Life Herald where Jessica Holyoke asked Robin Linden straight up if it was illegal and whether they planned to do anything about it.

I went to Robin Linden’s office hours today to find out if Escorts or Strippers are on their way out of SL. Many residents feel that with gambling gone, escorting is next to being hit with the banstick. When asked about the reasons for the gambling ban, Robin Linden stated that simulated prostitution and stripping were legal acts and that the gambling ban was placed into effect for legal compliance reasons. But once again today, I was told by a commentator that SL Escorts and Strippers are engaging in illegal acts. That somehow, somewhere there might be a law making escorting in SL illegal according to at least one commentator. There is no evidence to back up his assertion. There is no law against SL Escorting and Stripping. But in talking about whether there could be a legal ban against escorting, I decided to see how I would legislate against it. Then I ran into this post from VintFalken.com, SLescorting services: the RL value which talks about escorts having to pay taxes in Belgium, the average wage being about minimum wage for these SL escorts and the fact that if the economy was really in trouble, their wages would be affected.

Everybody is that worried about the Second Life economy, but somehow they look only at the whole Ginko affair and the USD/L$ exchange rates. If an economy is really staggering, wages get influenced too, right? That’s why Lillie Yifu’s report on SL’s Escort market is an interesting one to read. Besides a description of all the different ‘branches’ of the industry, she also gives an overview of the money the girls make in the executive summary. Well, this post from an actual escort gives great incite into the types of avatars that use escorts, the different things you should expect in the varying price ranges from the different types of escorts available in Second Life, she talks about gay escorts and how they are actually better than their female counterparts, but, they are much harder to find as they don’t advertise as much, just promote themselves in clubs. This has been some interesting reading, but the one thing I have noticed in Second Life, if you have a good looking avatar, the girls will be on you every time you enter a club anyway, I have been in a club once with two girls while I was being IM’ed by several other girls including 2 girls who wanted me to join them.
