Escorts for your Avatar in Second Life
Been reading some interesting articles today about escorts in Second Life, how it’s legal since it’s mostly like phone sex, how much money they make, what types there are, etc. The first stop here is the Second Life Herald where Jessica Holyoke asked Robin Linden straight up if it was illegal and whether they planned to do anything about it.
I went to Robin Linden’s office hours today to find out if Escorts or Strippers are on their way out of SL. Many residents feel that with gambling gone, escorting is next to being hit with the banstick. When asked about the reasons for the gambling ban, Robin Linden stated that simulated prostitution and stripping were legal acts and that the gambling ban was placed into effect for legal compliance reasons. The gambling ban was not instituted as a means for There-ing up SL.
But once again today, I was told by a commentator that SL Escorts and Strippers are engaging in illegal acts. That somehow, somewhere there might be a law making escorting in SL illegal according to at least one commentator. There is no evidence to back up his assertion. There is no law against SL Escorting and Stripping. But in talking about whether there could be a legal ban against escorting, I decided to see how I would legislate against it. Then I ran into this post from VintFalken.com, SLescorting services: the RL value which talks about escorts having to pay taxes in Belgium, the average wage being about minimum wage for these SL escorts and the fact that if the economy was really in trouble, their wages would be affected.
Everybody is that worried about the Second Life economy, but somehow they look only at the whole Ginko affair and the USD/L$ exchange rates. If an economy is really staggering, wages get influenced too, right? That’s why Lillie Yifu’s report on SL’s Escort market is an interesting one to read. Besides a description of all the different ‘branches’ of the industry, she also gives an overview of the money the girls make in the executive summary. I hope she keeps this up and gives us a monthly or bi-monthly report of how the escort salaries are evolving. Well, this post from an actual escort gives great incite into the types of avatars that use escorts, the different things you should expect in the varying price ranges from the different types of escorts available in Second Life, she talks about gay escorts and how they are actually better than their female counterparts, but, they are much harder to find as they don’t advertise as much, just promote themselves in clubs. She also brings up the fact that women pamper themselves with visits to a salon, so why not spend six bucks in Second Life and be treated like a goddess for a little bit too.

This has been some interesting reading, but the one thing I have noticed in Second Life, if you have a good looking avatar, the girls will be on you every time you enter a club anyway, I have been in a club once with two girls while I was being IM’ed by several other girls including 2 girls who wanted me to join them. So, guys, if you are going to spend money on virtual sex, you may as well put it into making your avatar look better and then you will only have time invested by talking to the females, and that is certainly better, as ones who really want to do it are certainly better than ones who just get paid for it. Ok, your little blog post got me a little angry. What is your deal with escorts in SL? Are they bothering you? Have they done anything wrong to you? I think you just need to mind your own damn business and keep your nose in what you do and stop trying to shut down a business that a lot of people rely on for their rl income. I offer webcam on SL and I make way more than minimum wage, it is my only source of income. We don’t need prudes like you coming in and trying to shut us down. With the economy the way it is, like I said before, lots of girls are doing this to survive in rl. So stay the f*ck out of it. It isn’t illegal, you need to stop worrying about it so much. Stop acting like escorts, dancers, etc… are making your sl (if you have one) such a bad experience. If they are bothering you, then just simply stay away from the clubs!!!!

Right …this is our rl income. We make way above the average wage and work our asses off to make it to that mark. And you are the type they warn us about… “Looking for a freebie f***”. While I found the article pretty accurate especially about the rates, etc. I found that it was pretty biased anti-escorting.
While i will not speculate as to why there seems to be a bias, I can speculate that he has not had an experience with a GOOD SL escort. Of which I happen to be one. There are a few differences between girls that have sl sex for free, and girls that do it as their profession.
1. The free girls have to be pleased as well, otherwise why would they be doing it for free? The Escort does not only NOT have to be pleased, she makes sure it is not even a consideration. The Client is paying, The Client has to be pleased. 100% of the escort’s efforts go to pleasing the client.
2. The free girls usually want a relationship of some sort. And after you”date” them a while will want an ” exclusive…monogamous relationship.” (just as in sl)The Escort not only does NOT want an exclusive monogamous relationship..she does everything in her power, to prevent the client from even thinking about one. It destroys our piece of mind and ability tro earn. Girlfriends get jealous, escorts don’t.
3. Try getting your ” girlfriend” to go along with a 4 girl party? Escorts? par for the course. You want to have a harem party? Can you afford 3 or 4 of us? Nuff said.
4. Most important. As you get to know your ” girlfriend” better, you will become…. reticent to bring up some sexual fantasies. And yes I know some girls will have no problem with threesomes. But….. I think what needs to be said about escort sex vs just having a handsome avatar is this. YES - you can go to certain places and get IM’d all day to jump on pose balls and have pixel sex. It is something completely different to pay for a GOOD escort, even without cam or voice, who chats like a great writer of erotic fiction, and is stimulating and obviously takes pride in his/her work. This person gets inside of his/her avatar and takes you inside of yours. Get it? Much different then someone who just wants to see their avatar have sex..and says “ooooh oohhhh yes yes yes!!!” It’s about paying someone for being stimulating and fun..who obviously puts much effort into developing an avatar who stays in character or can play any..and does so all the time.
