Virtual Radio Station Launches
Virtual World Radio Network - Real Voices, Real News for Virtual Worlds - A very professional sounding radio station has launched in and about Second Life, the Virtual World Radio Network just wants to keep you informed. They are on air at http://radio.vwrn.net:8787 and if you visit the virtual radio station you can get a free radio to listen to the show in your own virtual abode. They added the teleport sound between news articles, which adds a nice touch to the program I think. They also mention that they will be adding more shows on their website.
With VWRN you will get news about SL anytime and any place. Hear the latest on sims, trends, communities and what outsiders are saying about us in Real Life. What are governments and regulators planning for the virtual realm and what are the Lindens up to?
We are experienced broadcasters and journalists, who choose to spend lots of time in SL to bring you the real voices of newsmakers every day! Source: Virtual World Radio Network
Some of the first stories they are running:
Second Life Community Convention sold out:
Second Lifers are converging on the windy city this weekend. On August 25th and 26th, the Second Life Community Conference takes place at the Chicago Hilton.
Gartner defends position on virtual worlds:
At a panel on Dr. Dobbs island on Friday, Steve Prentice from consulting firm Gartner clarified his recent prediction, that 80% of people will have a virtual life by 2011.
Germans take on the fight against child pornography in SL:
The German government agency which oversees vehicle safety, the Technische Ueberwachungs Verein or TUV , has announced a competition for an open-source parental control tool in Second Life.
Plus they are covering the daily economic report, total signups, etc.
From CNET,
“The need for a truly professional, state-of-the-art media operation in Second Life has become apparent by the sheer number of unconnected blogs, podcasts, and other random bits of information in SL,” a VWRN press release said.
Sounds like they have order on the brain.
The VWRN is not an official Linden Lab creation, but it’s a positive sign to see that residents of Second Life are also catching onto some of the tactics that could help the virtual world move into maturity. Source: ‘Second Life’ radio station emerges
