The One-Afternoon Second Life Tour In last month’s TechProof column, I promised to compile a list of “must-see” sights for educators in Second Life, one of the 3-D virtual environments gaining popularity with educators.

Below is that list compiled from my experiences in Second Life, from reading the blogs of Ryan Bretag and Kevin Jarrett, attending presentations by Lisa Perez, studying the “best of” sites (listed below), and just being a collector of the odd article.

Frontier justice: Can virtual worlds be civilized? They attacked by bombing the restaurant on Prokofy Neva’s Coney Island boardwalk while he was hosting an outdoor party, blurring the view with smoke and fire and abruptly ending the salsa dancing and hot-dog lunch. In the plane’s cockpit was a crude caricature of a Muslim terrorist.

While Prokofy was distracted, someone walked up and catapulted him into the air. Drifting for a moment, high above the boardwalk, he could see that the intruders had dumped a large model of one of the fallen World Trade Center towers in the middle of his land. Demolishing it would make a mess and frustrate his paying tenants, who were already yelling with outrage.

The Working (Second) Life I have been employed by the Swedish Institute as a guide at the Second House of Sweden (the Swedish Embassy) in Second Life. This is a shot of me doing the Saturday morning shift, hence the baggy eyes. I am really enjoying my work at the Second House of Sweden (SHS) however it is keeping me from working on the HUMlab Island in Second Life (SL). I have a lot of ideas for the HUMlab Island but it will take a bit of time.

Today in Second Life - Friday 7 September, 2007 Not a smooth day on the Second Life grid today, with minor to moderate login, teleport and asset issues at intervals throughout the day, though these mostly eased in the evening. There are bonus presence issues today as well, so the status of people in your friends list may not be as they appear.
