911 Memorial in Second Life

Category: Memorials by Stone Culdesac

They have been done before, I am told, but this is the first one I have visited in Second Life, and it appears to be a lot like the Vietnam memorials I have seen, but the 9/11 Memorial is one you should visit, check out and drop a few lindens on. This sim lists everyone who was,

CONFIRMED DEAD. Includes those who have been confirmed dead by a coroner’s office or the Defense Department. It also includes those for whom death certificates have been issued, even if no body has been recovered.

REPORTED DEAD. Includes those whose deaths have been reported by family, employers, mortuaries, places of worship or by the airlines that listed them as aboard one of the four flights. Includes people for whom memorial services have been held, even if their bodies have not been recovered or positively identified. (Those identified by federal authorities as the hijackers are not included in the database.)

REPORTED MISSING. People identified by family, official agencies or employers as missing. Source: SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 VICTIMS

There are pictures on the sim of everyone they had available, many are shown, and many are not. Included are victims for whom AP has confirmed the death with named local or federal government officials, the person’s family, and a named spokesman for the person’s employer or a named funeral home official. In the case of confirmation by family members, victims are included when the family member is definitive that the person is dead or that the family considers the person dead.

That sounds kind of harsh doesn’t it, but I don’t know of a better way to explain it than the way it is listed on their website. The website, http://www.september11victims.com/ has everyone listed who has a picture and their are many, many comments from family, friends and sympathizers, it is truly a moving experience itself. When combined with the sim, and the constant drizzle of rain, and water running down the walls, much like tears, it is hard not to remember and feel the same way you did when it happened. It is a day I will never forget, as I watched it happen on live TV at home. I hope everyone who died is with God and the ones responsible, well, they can all go to hell.

They are having an event to commemorate 911 and everyone that perished there.

At the World Trade Center sim, there will be a memorial time from 5:46 till 10:28 am Linden time. It corresponds to the RL time events from when the towers started collapsing…until they collapsed.

For all those interested, please join us at the World Trade Center sim.
