Metanomics: Business and Policy in the Metaverse

Category: Education, Second Life Videos by Stone Culdesac

I first read about Metanomics: Business and Policy in the Metaverse on Techcrunch, which is calling it a conference, but no where on the Metanomics site does it mention a conference, it appears to be a series of planned events that will include speakers from game developers; executives managing real-world and virtual-world businesses; regulators and politicians; and scholars of business, economics, law and sociology. Metanomics is being created by Metaverse and Cornell University. From Techcrunch’s questions with Nick Wilson.

Wilson says that Metanomics is about bridging the gap between those comfortable in Second Life, and those wary of it:

One of the things that I want to do, is use video, podcasts, web to bring this stuff to people in formats they’re more comfortable with. To bridge the gap between those who’re comfortable in SL and those not yet there. Hence partnerships with SLCN.tv for all of these shows and the team up with Cornell. This first event is Metanomics 101 By Robert Bloomfield, it starts on 09/17/2007 at 11:00
and ends 09/17/2007 at 12:00 Time zone: US/Pacific. Metanomics 101 is the kickoff event of the Metanomics Series. The session will lay out some of the key issues facing those who study business and policy in the metaverse, and preview some of the speakers and topics that will be presented over the coming months. Be sure to join us live on Metaversed Island, or watch the live broadcast on SLCN.tv.

They are planning on having an event most weeks of the traditional academic year (September-May), to be scheduled on Mondays, 2pm-3pm EST (11am-2pm PDT). The complete schedule is on the calendar on the right side of the screen of the <a href=”http://metanomics.metaversed.com/Metanomics website. Below is a two minute video that will give you a quick overview.
