The College of Second Knowledge If you are still looking to learn how to do stuff in Second Life, the College of Second Knowledge might just be for you, classes, tutorials, build it yourself kits, and more available at all times.

Church island offers skeptics a second chance to become virtually good The Bible says that Christians should build their house on rock, not on sand, but has nothing to say about building it in virtual reality. Taking that as a sign they should not be afraid to venture out there, Church leaders in Britain have bought an island in the virtual world of Second Life.

MSoft showcases blood tracking on Second Life Msoft, the electronic blood tracking specialists, has begun showcasing its technology on Second Life, the virtual online society shaped entirely by users, where they can live a parallel life.

Using Second Life in Your Business I was chatting with Norm Jacknis, CIO of Westchester county, the other day about his 2008 purchasing plans and one of the areas that came up was Westchester’s use of Second Life-like technology.

Inside System Storage — hosted by Tony Pearson A description of the storage event IBM put on today in Second Life.

From IDF, The World of Warcraft + Second Life = 3D Web Future I’ve observed that the accuracy of related predictions goes up sharply when the companies are executing well and drops like a rock when they aren’t. Right now, Intel is executing at near historic levels, suggesting that predictions based on IDF should be relatively accurate. One thing stood out: We are moving to the 3D Web and we are ramping to it much like we ramped to the original Web.

Linden Lab’s out-of-court settlement option for Second Life Despite being a great MMO video game, there are some internal problems plaguing Second Life that involve the company Linden Lab and users. These, take note, are not just simple problems as they sometimes lead to lawsuits that can cost both parties thousands of dollars, sometimes even more.

Armani In Second Life? Over the last few weeks, there have been a lot of hints at a Giorgio Armani presence within Second Life. None of the articles I combed through really demonstrated a substantive source - it has all looked like smoke and mirrors. From what little I understand of the fashion industry, that is par for the course.

News in Second Life vs. Real Life It’s been said that admitting you have an addiction is the first step on the road to recovery, and in the spirit of that, I’d like to make a confession. I, Will Ross, am a news junkie. That’s right my friends, I’m a card carrying friend of Ted Turner. (Crickets) You know… friends of Bill W. reference? Nobody? Well, they can’t all be winners.

Anyhow, on today’s show we’re going to talk news; both how to get your real world news fix while in Second Life, and how to get your Second Life news fix while in the real world.

Second Life concerns I’m currently taking a class in Second Life and we posted our first impressions of the virtual world to the class forum today. One of my classmates posted this interesting article about a professor’s “second thoughts about Second Life”, which raises some important legal and ethical concerns about institutions of higher learning using and requiring students to participate in Second Life.

Living the Architecture - Porchdog in Second Life As we saw in yesterday’s post on Real Estate Goes Virtual Second Life can be viewed as ‘Living the Architecture’. Despite limited import tools using site plans it is possible to group build and create a representation of the architecture that can indeed be ‘lived in’ albeit virtually.

Striking news gold with Second Life Our Washington correspondent Sarah Smith has been given rare access to the R&D facilities of Linden Research, the company behind Second Life.

This virtual world, launched just three years ago, boasts millions of users (around 10 million although many are lapsed) and provides a steady stream of revenue for Linden from monthly subscriptions and ‘land’ sales.

If A Conference Is Held In Second Life, Will Anyone Listen? One of the inherent problems with Second Life today is the limitations on attendance; an entire island or sim (Second Life for server) can only handle a maximum of approximately 78 users at one time. Conference attendees could participate at two locations in Second Life, but it was a first in, best dressed affair, so to attend I had to teleport in 45 minutes before the conference session started. 30 minutes prior to start and the main conference facility of Metaversed Island was at capacity, and unlike a TechCrunch 40 conference, you couldn’t sneak into the back of the room and stand against a wall; once full users simply couldn’t teleport into the facility.
