Now you can take your avatar to a third life Linden Lab - creators of global hit Second Life - and IBM - creator of, well, the very interesting mainframe - are working on a joint project to allow a single character created in a virtual world to travel to different ones.
Currently, a character created in Second Life can only operate within its confines and cannot enter other worlds.

The game, titled I Am Legend: Survival, features customizable avatars that are loosely based on characters in the film and environments that will change and expand over time. Initially, the following New York Cities locations will be available: Central Park, Chinatown and Coney Island. Columbus Circle will be opened in November. I Am Legend: Survival also supports voice and text chat.
NBC’s The Office to feature Second Life NBC’s hit faux reality show The Office is coming to Second Life. Well … at least Dwight is coming. Photos and info can be found on Just Jared including images of Dwight playing his identically dressed avatar. In fact, you can find the Dwight Shelford’s avatar in search featuring a profile that proclaims his love of a variety of NBC Universal movies and shows, and his desire to “calculate the exchange rate between Schrute bucks and linden dollars.”
September 2007 Economic Key Metrics Hello everyone! I have posted the Economic Key Metrics through September 2007 on our Economy site, in the standard Excel, OpenDocument, and Google Docs formats. Definitions for these metrics are available in the wiki Metrics Glossary page.
New York and Virtual Entertainment - it’s a Meme Thing Every so often I pick up on a common theme running across Second Life. In the past it’s included “German cities” and “virtual recruitment”. These themes or memes (as I prefer to misuse the term), though no doubt long in the conceptualizing, seem to burst forth in a spookily synchronous fashion at a number of locations. Perhaps the hottest meme of Autumn 2007 is also the most complex that I’ve seen to date: New York and Virtual Entertainment.

How To Lose Your Shirt In Second Life Well today I learned a few lessons in Second Life.
About three weeks ago, I rented my first land in Second Life with the idea of experimenting to see how TPN could use it to spend more time with our community. I rented the land from an avatar called Rich Bulloch (who also apparently goes by the avatar Dog Fargis). We paid six months in advance and it wasn’t a lot of money - about L$20,000 for six months (about US$80). After about a week on our first block of land, Rich sez he has a bigger block, a whole island, we could rent for a bit more L$. I asked Rich if there were any “gotchas” on the new island and he said it was “low prim” (1874).
The Office Takes Out a “Local Ad” Check out new The Office stills from episode “Local Ad” Synopsis as follows:
“When the Scranton branch is asked to participate in a Dunder Mifflin ad, Michael seizes his chance to exhibit his creativity. Meanwhile, Dwight explores the online world of Second Life.”
Motorati claims to have sold “most expensive” cars in SL for non-profit On October 12th, Motorati put two SL replicas of real life vintage cars up for sale at the sum of 100,000L each. All proceeds would go to benefit the Electronic Frontier Foundation. After only two days, both vehicles sold! While I think this is wonderful, I can’t help but feel it is overshadowed by their claim. They would have been fine saying that it was one of the most expensive.
Unfortunately this just isn’t the case.

The Next Best Thing to Being There I just finished assisting Claudia Linden with her presentation at the Training Solutions Technology Conference and Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah…but I never left my desk in San Francisco. Claudia was presenting to an audience of several hundred people interested in using Second Life for education and training purposes.
