Loveseeker Bracelets for your Virtual Valentine’s Day

January 31st, 2008 | Category: Shopping, Valentines Day

Looking for a present for Valentine’s Day for that special someone in your Second Life? I found this great pair of bracelets at a store a friend of mine is building, Whispered Dreams, the bracelets are called Loveseeker couple’s cuffs, and are a very big way to announce how you feel about someone in Second Life to everyone around you in Second Life! You add their name and special code to your cuff, and they do the same to theirs, and they start doing stuff when you get near each other.

Loveseeker Cuffs

From the notecard:

These special cuffs are to be worn with partners. (Of course, you can wear them alone if you wish as just an accessory)

They were designed to be worn by each partner and as the partner nears the stone begins to glow and sends a special message (in any language you wish it to be in) to the partner at varying distances. (The partner name and the messages can be changed in the config card in each cuff). The color of the glow changes as you get nearer to your partner and when you are at the closest range a heart poof appears.

After a time, the glow disappears, and you then you are left with the basic beauty of the cuff. You can change the color of the stone (but not the glow) by typing “/7 list” to get the list of color and “/7 color to set the color.

special note: the time in which the glow disappears can be set in config card. You can also remove the poofer if you do not like it.

please try and enjoy the loveseeker’s cuff(s)

I talked Ari into helping me try these out, much to her chagrin, although I think she’s got a thing for me. ;)

The cuffs light up green at 96 meters and you have the option of using the comments they already have in there, or making your own. Here is what Ari’s said at 96 meters: “Aribella Lafleur says You gotta be kidding me!”

Cuffs at 96 meters

Would I kid you Ari? They light up yellow at 20 meters and here is what her cuff had to say to me then, “Aribella Lafleur says You gotta be kidding me!”.

Cuffs at 20 meters

Hmm, is there an echo in here? The cuffs light up red when you are within 5 meters of each other, and of course they say something then too, “Aribella Lafleur says I’m on my way… outa here”.

Cuffs at 5 meters

There are also standing around messages, Ari’s said “Aribella Lafleur says Have you put out the garbage yet?” and “Aribella Lafleur says Bite me”.

They also, when you are within five meters of each other, spew out a big bunch of hearts, as a symbol of your love. You can stop it from doing this, in case you go into a busy sim or you just don’t like it.

Journey Scheduled to Open Virtual World In Second Life

January 31st, 2008 | Category: Music, Places to Visit, Press release

Journey Scheduled to Open Virtual World In Second Life!

On Feb 1st 2008 the rock band Journey will release their new Virtual Island in Second Life. A grand opening party is planned inside Second Life at the “Journey Rock Band” sim and will feature a meet and greet with band members as well as live DJ’s covering much of Journey’s history, and playing recorded studio and live performances as well as lots of other great music for fans to party to! The grand opening party is scheduled to start at 10:00 am on Feb 1st. The Journey island region in Second Life is named “Journey Rock Band”. Learn more at http://www.secondlife.com

Journey has long been known for innovations in stage sets so creating a Second Life Island for fans to enjoy was an easy decision. The island features dedicated areas for each album along with audio and video presentations. There are also two venues on the island the Escape Club and the Captured Amphitheater where live SL events can be held.

Journey’s new redesigned website www.journeymusic.com will be re-launched on or around January 29th. It will feature band history, tour information, photos and a new forum.

Journey is currently getting ready to start their 2008 World Tour which begins in Santiago Chile in mid February.

The Journey Island was built by Industrial-Design.com Journey’s long time web developer and features work by SL builders Farrokh Vavoom, Argus Collingwood, Adrian Harbinger and Jocelyn Sands.

Recent Press Release:

Journey–Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums)–is proud to introduce fans all over the world to their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda (”pin-eh-da”). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons.

Arnel hails from Quezon City in the Philippines and has been singing Journey songs–in addition to original material–with his band, The Zoo, for the past couple of years in clubs all over his homeland. Joining the legendary band is a dream come true for him.

“It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world. It’ll be a lot of hard work on my part and I’m actually looking forward to the scrutiny I’ll get from the hardcore Journey fans. I know they’ll expect me to sound exactly like `the voice` (Steve Perry), but that will never happen. I know there’s only one Steve Perry in this world.”

When it was time for Journey to look for a new lead singer, the internet came to their rescue. Guitarist Neal Schon wanted someone new to the music business, so he turned to YouTube. After finding Arnel singing “Faithfully,” he knew he had found the perfect frontman.

“I was frustrated about not having a singer,” explains guitarist Neal Schon, “so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours. I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted. After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true. I thought, `he can’t be that good. But he is that good, he’s the real deal and so tremendously talented. Arnel doesn’t sound synthetic and he’s not emulating anyone. I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him that night, but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter.”

Arnel Pineda picks up the story: “My friend Noel picked up the message on YouTube and told me it was from Neal. I thought it was a hoax so I ignored it. Noel said, `what if it really was Neal and he wanted to offer you the chance of a lifetime?` So I e-mailed Neal back and the rest is history.”

“Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey,” continues keyboardist Jonathan Cain. “His personality is very well-suited to our music. He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.”

Schon agrees, “We feel reborn. I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us. At first we were going to go into the studio and just write 4 songs, but now it’s escalated to a lot of great new and diverse material. The stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone’s so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel.”

Journey is currently working on a new album with legendary producer Kevin Shirley, which they hope to release by spring/summer 2008.

The Fish at Primula Rasa

January 29th, 2008 | Category: Artificial Life, Places to Visit, Sims Worth Exploring

Timeless Prototype has created some really interesting fish for Primula Rasa in Second Life, they learn and interact with their environment. This blue fish swam up to me, he bumped me, pushed me around a little, rolled over a bunch of times and was rubbing up against my legs like a cat at the end.

The Fish at Primula Rasa

The Fish at Primula Rasa 2

The Fish at Primula Rasa 3

The Fish at Primula Rasa 4

In the writeup on Primula Rasa on eightbar, a fish lifted him out of the water.

The things that initially attracted my attention were the fish that Timeless has created. Not only are they fantasticaly articulated and organic in their swimming motion but whilst we were talking the fish took an interest in us and congregated around the jetty we were on. Timeless says he has seen all sorts of unprogrammed but interesting behaviour as the fish take an interest in their surroundings and each other. He got me to hover in the water and a fish decided to lift me up and ‘rescue me’ clearly not scared of the predator AV :-) Source: Artificial Life - Timeless style

Unfortunately for those fish, you can go spear fishing. NOTE: No actual virtual fish were harmed in the following pictures. ;)

Primula Rasa: Artificial Life in a Virtual World

January 29th, 2008 | Category: Artificial Life, Places to Visit, Sims Worth Exploring

Love it or hate it, spend hours upon hours there or hardly ever come inworld at all, you have to admit one thing, there are some really creative people out there and Timeless Prototype, one of the best, and his team keep getting better all the time. Take for example his latest creation, Primula Rasa, a growing, ever changing environment in Second Life. The most fascinating piece of Primula Rasa is the fish, but I’ll get to those in the next blog post, and this sim is enhanced for windlight.

Primula Rasa Main Entrance

Do you enjoy new realms? Do you like to curate or study organisms or find joy in the science and spirituality behind life? Set your imagination free at Primula Rasa- the Primitive Slate…a build in progress.

The really cool thing about this place is the trees, mushrooms, flowers, etc, are always growing, and restarting in different spots, as the seeds float around the island according to the weather.

The positioning and seeding is all in the hands of the weather and of the random flow of seeds that you see fluttering around the place. Source: Artificial Life - Timeless style

The random nature of it I’m sure will make for some interesting looking plants in the future, such as this tree/mushroom.

Tree/mushroom

What have we here?

Primula Rasa altar

Some form of torture device, or a spot for sacrifices?

Primula Rasa sacrificing Stone

As I sit and think about this particular spot on this primitive but growing island, I can’t help but wonder what its purpose is. The build is still growing, but if I can get an interview with Timeless so I can ask him, I sure will.

While real money does give a more realistic experience, it also has its real dangers.

From: Science Roll Medical Training in Second Life Quote from the site - If you follow Scienceroll closely, you know well how much I support the opportunities provided by Second Life, the virtual world, that can be an additional e-learning tool in medical education. I have two new reasons for that….

From: Times Online Get on board: exploit the technology Quote from the site - We had lots of discussion about whether the use of social-networking sites was a force for good at KPMG and we have now agreed a policy that recognises that this is part of day-to-day communication for our staff. We have even set up our own innovation hub on Facebook where staff can discuss ideas.

From: Second Effects SL Ergonomics, Part II: Building Tips Quote from the site - In a previous article I described what I refer to as “Second Life Ergonomics”. It’s all about the appropriate design of virtual structures to make it easy for avatars to use and enjoy.

From: slog AfterLife: Thousand users at a event Quote from the site - Yesterday at Orange’s Geekend, Metaversatility’s Frank Bogomil(RL: John Plevyak) for the first time publicly talked about AfterLife, a project he has been working on that will make it possible to have single sim events with hundreds or thousands of users.

From: Reuters OpenSim worlds lure Second Life’s outcasts Quote from the site - On Tuesday, Steve Smith of BCX Bank had to shut down operations in Second Life. But Smith isn’t going quietly into the night.

From: M is for MYG Studies in light - “surreal” Quote from the site - I actually love Windlight, but I do not think it loves me, the reluctant techie. Two versions ago worked best for me, right out of the box. The last version didn’t work - at all - without constant crashes. I still have issues with the latest release being “sticky.” Which feels sort of like lag, only a quicker lag, if that makes any sense. It sucks, is what it does.

From: Global Kids Brings TSL to the Media Quote from the site - Global Kids is giving members of the media an inside look at Teen Second Life (TSL), Rafi Santo just told me. TSL has strict rules for which adults can enter the space, so this tour is an interesting way to try to increase the visibility of the project.

Second Life News for January 26, 2008

January 26th, 2008 | Category: Second Life News

From: Wayne Porter Solipsis Open Source & Free P2P 3D World(s) Quote from the site - Solipsis is a free and open source system for a massively multi-participant shared virtual world. It was designed by Joaquin Keller and Gwendal Simon at France Telecom Research and Development Labs. Its goal is to provide the infrastructure for a “Metaverse-like” public virtual territory.

From: jalopnik Lancia to Launch Car in Second Life, Before First Life Quote from the site - Hey Lancia, welcome to 2006! It’s good to see you finally decided to approach and embrace Second Life, the virtual world game thing. The Italian Fiat subsidiary will be launching the Delta sedan in Second Life one day prior to its official unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show.

From: G4 Banks In ‘Second Life’ Failing? Quote from the site - In a scene eerily prescient of our nation’s economic collapse (I’m from the future, so I know.), some banks in Linden Labs’ Second Life MMO are being shut down, partially due to economic improprieties.

From: joystiq Economic woes extend to Second Life Quote from the site - Everywhere you look, it seems there’s news of some real life business jumping into the virtual world of Second Life. Car companies, HR firms, clothing makers; you name it, it was being sold on the virtual frontier.

From: Forrester Blended real life / Second Life meeting shows promise Quote from the site - Last night I delivered a presentation on getting real work done in virtual worlds at a meeting of the Serious Second Life Group in Boulder, which meets at the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado. The purpose of the meeting: discuss the viability of virtual worlds for entrepreneurial activities and getting work done. How’s this for blended: I sat in a classroom on the university campus along with about 15 other people (academics, students, and business people).

From: SL I-Reports Blue Skies in Second Life Quote from the site - Getting somewhere in Second Life is never a problem. We simply TP (teleport) or fly to a location while others prefer to walk on solid virtual ground. 3D virtual worlds such as Second Life, generally don’t have gravity, but what if you wanted to bring the realism of the real world into Second Life?

From: Digado Google Adsense in Second Life? Quote from the site - In between talks at the Orange Island Geekend I left for Clever Zebra Island, hosting a what looked to be interesting event on Advertising. Companies have been searching for a good advertisement/banner system in Second Life for a while now.

From: Telegraph The shine comes off social networking Quote from the site - After a year of hype, Facebook, Second Life and the rest are facing a backlash, writes Claudine Beaumont.

From: New World Notes Eshi Unloads: Should Unethical Businesses Be Banned from Second Life? Quote from the site - Virtual world builder Eshi Otawara is happy that the Lindens have banned unregulated banks from the world, but what she’d really like is “a rating system which would ban businesses with repetitive negative feedback off Second Life”.

Timeless Underground

January 26th, 2008 | Category: DJ, Dance, Grid Hopping, Places to Visit

Timeless Underground

This place is one of the best clubs I have been too in Second Life. Timeless Underground is one of those places you just don’t know who is going to show and when. Lots of old timers like this place, as well as several Lindens that I have seen, and if you can get Phillip there, what can’t you do?

Phillip Linden at Timeless Underground

Timeless Underground Crowded

You just never know what is going to happen, like burgers falling from Heaven…

Timeless Underground Burgers

Frequently a place for some of the best Dj’s, I just wish I could remember her name, she played some good music.

Timeless Underground 2

Also a good spot to run into the beautiful Moxie Grumby.
