Second Life News for January 2, 2008
From: Massively Cinemassively: Metaversatility - Orange Island Quote from the site - Metaversatility has created a Machinima for the French telecom, Orange. Their creative space, Orange Island in Second Life, is chock-full of activities. One of the features that I find most interesting are the trees, by Kriss Lehmann of Straylight, which change colors with the seasons.
From: Information Week Will Web 2.0 Survive the New Year? Quote from the site - Are you just about sick to death of the so-called magic phrase “Web 2.0?” If so, you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s doomed to crash and burn faster than Britney’s/Lindsey’s/(insert scandal-ridden starlet’s name here) career. At least, that’s what one UK-based research firm claims.
From: Business Communicators of Second Life Kiva’s New SL Office, Microlending and Reputation Quote from the site - Kiva is celebrating the opening of new offices in Second Life on Saturday, Jan. 5th. Join in at 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. SLT, get a Kiva wristband – and don’t forget to pick up a Kiva certificate or two. You can turn “Lindens into Loans” with them.
From: Cybergrrl Oh The End of 2007 in Second Life: Friends Quote from the site - I noticed that in the last few weeks of 2007, I was connecting with my SL friends and making some new ones so I thought I’d devote the first post of 2008 to friendship in virtual worlds.
From: Grid Expectations B&B Skins - Rigging the Search Tool @ Skin Oasis Quote from the site - Someone posted an image on Bloghud.com and I had to go see for myself, of course. I ended up with several shots, myself: This is such total BS.
From: BlogHUD Unfortunate bots Quote from the site - These ruthed, grey avatars keep logging in here and getting logged out after a dozen seconds. I’d bet they are bots.
From: Cisco Virtual Worlds Blog Happy Virtual 2008 Quote from the site - Happy New Year! 2008 is going to be jam packed with virtual activities for Cisco. With so many exciting virtual events coming I can’t even name them all but here are few upcoming dates. Make sure you mark your calendar.
From: SLNN.com Turning the page on 2007 in virtual worlds - What happened and what’s next, Part One Quote from the site - Virtual worlds are at the heart of what Not Possible IRL is about. Without them, our group and our cause would cease to exist. 2007 was the year I discovered Second Life. I am too new to look back and too new to look forward - with any real sense of perspective - so I turned to three thought leaders and veterans of virtual worlds who are deeply in touch with the ups and downs of the metaverse in very different ways.
From: Second Life Blog Rolling Restart - Wednesday January 2nd Quote from the site - To push out server-side fixes related to age verification and a few causes of sim crashes, we will be performing a rolling restart of the Second Life servers on Wednesday, January 2nd 2008. Logins will be unaffected, and no new viewers will be required.
From: Second Life Blog [RESOLVED] Difficulties Rezzing Objects and Connecting To Second Life Quote from the site - The troublesome server has been repaired and we have verified that accounts on this server can rez objects and connect to Second Life. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused and wish you all a good morning!
From: Second Life Blog Use Caution in Dealing with Third Party L$ Sites Quote from the site - We are aware L$ are traded on a number of third party sites. While some of these sites may be reliable, others deal in fraudulent L$ — L$ that were created not with any resources, value, or labor, but rather bought with a phished account, stolen credit card or PayPal account. You therefore purchase these third party L$ at your own risk: if they are discovered to be fraudulent — in effect phony — we will recoup them from your account.
